Alta Virginia Elizabeth Matthews was born February 24, 1917 in Madison County, the daughter of James and Eva (Henson) Huffman and passed away on June 12, 2009 at Fredericktown at the age of 92 years.
Alta was preceded in death by her husband Ted Matthews whom she married on September 12, 1935 at Fredericktown, four (4) brothers Raymond, Homer, Truman, and Richard Huffman, one (1) sister Blanche Matthews, and one (1) son-in-law Bob Warner.
Alta is survived by two (2) daughters Sylvia Finch of Fredericktown, and Carol Belken of Farmington. One (1) brother Abe Huffman of Fredericktown, two (2) sisters Annalee Rebella of Nevis Minnesota, Joyce Lunsford of Fredericktown, nine (9) grandchildren, nine (9) great-grandchildren, and eight (8) great-great grandchildren.
Alta was a member of the Mine LaMotte Freewill Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 60 years.
Alta enjoyed writing poetry, plays, stories, and her church.

Visitation will be held after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday June 14, 2009 at the Follis & Sons Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday June 15, 2009 at the Follis & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Reed officiating.
Interment will be held in the Mine La Motte Cemetery
