Anna (Ann) Bennett Martyn-Polete of Florissant, Missouri (formerly of Bridgeton, Fredericktown & Greenville), passed away on August 12, 2010 at the age of 70 years after a long illness.
Born January 10, 1940, in st. Louis, Missouri the sixth of seven children to Gilbert & Elsie (nee Hochstetter) Bennett, both now deceased, Anna spent her childhood in Wayne County, graduating from Greenville High School in 1957. She enjoyed two loving marriages, each spaning many years. On January 17, 1958, Anna was joined in marriage to Bobby Lee Martyn and they lived in Madison County,primarly Fredericktown, until his death on NHovember 3, 1977. On July 27, 1979, she was married to J.W. ("Jay") Polete and they made their home in Fredericktown until he passed away on September 15, 1996. Anna then relocated to the St. Louis area.
Her career reflected her diverse talents and interests, including professional baker, office assistant, waitress, and homemaker. An excellent seamstress, Anna also enjoyed listening to music (especially country, bluegrass and gospel),traveling, being outdoors and family.
Anna is survived by a sister and brother Emma Jean (nee Bennett) Smith of Florissant and Leroy Bennett of Greenville, a daughter, Cynthia Martyn (Bridgeton), a son Mark Martyn and his wife Janice (Perryville),a step-daughter Pamela (nee Polete) Boggs and her life partner David Glaser (Cleveland, OH),and six grandchildren Scott Ehlers (Albuquerque, NM) ,Stephanie (nee Martyn)Lowes,Dawn Ehlers(St. Charles),Kevin Martyn(Perryville)Calvin Slayton (Bridgeton), and Travis Martyn (Perryville). She will be missed by all, including three great grandchildren (Sophia, Carson & Connor.
Anna's funeral was held on August 14, 2010 at Follis & Sons Chapel, with interment in Marcus Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that contributions in memory of Anna be made to American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), the American Heart Association(www. heart.org) or a charity of your choice.
