Obituary

Betty Lorene (Scott) Prater passed away on May 6, 2024, at the age of 96 1/2 years old, at Riverview at the Park Nursing Center in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

She was the loving wife of the late Calvin Cecil Prater for 77 years.

Betty was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on September 3, 1927, the daughter of Bertha (nee Daughhetee) Scott and Edward Otto Scott.

Betty was the loving mother of six children, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.  While raising her children she was a Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader.  After moving to Annapolis, Missouri, she was an Avon Representative, her #1 customer was herself (she bought more of the products than she sold).  It was in Annapolis where Dad had a new house built for Mom with all new furnishings, a loving gift from the heart.  Later in life she was a proud member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Fredericktown, Missouri.  She loved to travel with Dad and would have her suitcase always ready to go, the Aspens in Colorado and the Bluebells in Texas were among her favorite things to see.  She put her heart into making beautiful handmade quilts and with love gifted each of her children and grandchildren this special keepsake.

Mom will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri

"Mother's love is peace.  It need not be acquired, it need not be deserved" Erich Fromm.
