Carl J. Whitener was born on January 15, 1939 at Zion, Missouri the son of Carl N. and Elsie M. (Spain) Whitener and passed away on March 30, 2015 at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington at the age of 76 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law Lora Berry and brother-in-law Tony Branch. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Kay (Berry) Spain whom he was united marriage to on June 18, 1966 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, one son Jason Whitener of St. Louis, Missouri, one daughter Angie (Steve) Starkey of Fredericktown, one brother Jerry (Irene) Whitener of Farmington, Missouri, one sister Peggy Branch of Austin, Texas, four grandchildren Meghan (Luke) Swearengin and Colton Starkey both of Fredericktown and Erin and Ethan Whitener both of Jackson, Missouri, one great grandchild Suede Swearengin, adopted granddaughter Rhiannon Marquis, and adopted great granddaughter Jillian Johnson. Carl was a deacon for the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching Sunday School, gardening, Bluegrass music, and antique collecting.
