Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Umfleet, 82 formerly of Fredericktown, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 in Cape Girardeau with family at her side.

She was born October 21, 1931 in Hamilton, Ohio, to Felix and Rady Ellis. She married Charles Umfleet, Jr. on March 24, 1951 in Pocahontas, AK. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2009.

Betty retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 33 years of service. Betty grew up in Detroit, Michigan and at the age of 17 moved to Fredericktown, Missouri where she graduated from Fredericktown High School. She met and married Charley Umfleet. They had three children.

Betty was an active member for many years of the First Presbyterian Church of Fredericktown. She was also an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Madison County Historical Society. Betty had many interest including photography, crafts, bridge club and volunteering at many organizations.

Survivors include 3 children; two daughters of Washington State, Karen (Brian) Frisch, and Maureen (Ed) Heuss; a son of Cape Girardeau, Dr. Jeffrey (Christine) Umfleet; three grandchildren, Jaron, Jara and Alec; five sisters Joan Davis, Sue (John) Linkel, Janet (Jay) Geis, Drucilla (Dotta) Masters, Mary Margaret "Herbie" Thomas; and three brothers Bill (Brenda) Ellis, David (Phyllis) Ellis, Richard "Rick" (Barbara) Ellis and their families, and many nieces, nephews, and great friends. Betty is remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed life and so many great times spent with family and special friends.

Services will be held at Follis & Sons Funeral Home in Fredericktown, Mo. Visitation will be on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 12:00 with services following at 2:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Historical Society-designated to the Franklin Street Cemetery Restoration fund.
