January 26, 1921 – January 9, 2018
Homer Duel Berry was born January 26, 1921 the son of Arthur and Neva (Payne) Berry at Mt. Pisgah, Missouri and passed away on January 9, 2018 at home in Hannibal, Missouri at the age of 96 years.
Homer married Lora Cox of Zion, Missouri on September 11, 1943 at Ironton, Missouri. They celebrated their 60 years together before she was called home.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Two (2) brothers and sister -in-laws Howard and Eva Berry, Dale and Wilma Berry, One (1) sister and brother-in-law Peggy and Ralph Johnson, One (1) sister-in-law Phyllis Berry (wife of Clyde), One (1) son-in-law Carl Whitener (husband of Bonnie).
Homer is survived by One (1) son Ronald (Judy) Berry of Hannibal, Missouri, Two (2) daughters Bonnie Whitener of Fredericktown and Kathie (Harold) Goad of Montague, Texas. Two (2) brothers Clyde Berry of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Neil (Chrissy) of Defiance, Missouri. Five (5) grandchildren Jason Whitener of Fredericktown, Robert Berry of Hannibal, Mo., Angie (Steve) Starkey of Fredericktown, Warren (Jennifer) Goad of Montague, Texas, Glen (Vicki) Berry of Hannibal, Mo. Eight (8) great-grandchildren Meghan (Luke) Swearengin, Colton Starkey & fiancée Erin Bowling, Erin & Ethan Whitener, Alex & Sophie Berry, Charlie & Sam Goad, (One) (1) great-great-grandson Suede Swearengin.
Homer was a member of Ebenezer Baptist church where he served as a deacon. He loved to sing and was part of the "Original" Berry Brothers. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He also served on the BREC nominating board for 35 years, Missouri Forest Products Association (MFPA) board of directors for many years and as president in 1977, the Saint Frances Baptist Association, the Madison County School Board and the Marquand-Zion School Board and many others. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family.
