Obituary

Jean A. Vance,  born January 3, 1941, in Cooter, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on May 3, 2026. She was a devoted and loving presence whose life was marked by her dedication as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

Jean’s early years were shaped by her upbringing in Cooter, MO, where she was born to Gue and Nell Azbill. She was also sister to Ruth Billings and Ann Wright, both of whom preceded her in death, as well as Margarett Edwards. Her family roots nurtured the values she carried throughout her life.

Throughout her lifetime, Jean embraced both her career and family with equal devotion. Professionally, she was a skilled bookkeeper, demonstrating remarkable attention to detail and commitment in her work. At home, she was a homemaker who poured love and care into creating a nurturing environment for her family. Among her many talents, Jean was known for having made several of her children’s clothes, showcasing her remarkable skill in sewing. She was a self-taught knitter and had a deep passion for reading, hobbies that spoke to her creativity and thoughtful nature.

Jean took immense pride in raising her children, a role she regarded as her proudest accomplishment. She leaves behind a cherished family that includes her husband, Michael Vance; her son, Clay Vance, and daughter-in-law, Tonya Vance; her daughter, Betsy Braley, and son-in-law, Jeff Braley. The legacy of her love continues through her grandchildren—Claire Vance, Emma Vance, Ryan Adams, Brady Adams, and Delaney Arnold—and extends even further to her great-grandchildren, Slade Adams and Tripp Adams. Each of these family members will carry with them the lasting impact of Jean’s kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.

Her passing marks the loss of a remarkable woman who balanced her professional life and family with grace and warmth. Jean was known not only for her skill and dedication but for the genuine love she shared as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her memory will forever be treasured by all who knew her.

Friends and family will gather to honor her memory at the Follis & Sons Chapel located at 700 Plaza Drive, Fredericktown, Missouri. Visitation will be held on May 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m.

Jean A. Vance’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and the simple joys of family and handcrafts, which she so lovingly imparted. Her spirit will remain a guiding light for her family and all who were blessed to know her.
