Jessie Irene Matthews was born January 27, 1918 in Madison County, the daughter of William and Nancy (Cooper) Lawrence, and passed away on May 30, 2010 at the Community Manor of Farmington at the age of 92 years.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Newman Gay Matthews, whom she married on October 11, 1934 at Waterloo, Illinois, one (1) brother Marvin Lawrence, three (3) sisters, Mary Baker, Ruby Owens, Katie Orene Lawrence, one (1) son Donald Eugene "Gene" Matthews, and one great-great grandson Chase Anthony Cole.
Jessie is survived by one (1) son Richard Matthews of Farmington, three (3) granddaughters Sarah Matthews of Farmington, Kathy (Tom) Donze of Farmington, Vicki (Dwaine) Pinkston of Farmington, three (3) grandsons, Daniel "Zeke" (Amanda) Matthews of Bonne Terre, Steve Matthews of Farmington, Chris Matthews of Farmington, one (1) daughter in law JoAnn Matthews of Farmington, eight (8) great-grandchildren, and two (2) great-great grandchildren.
Jessie was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, she enjoyed singing, and playing the piano.

VISITATION: after 5:00 P.M. Wednesday June 2, 2010 at the Follis & Sons Funeral Home.

SERVICES: 1:00 P.M. Thursday June 3, 2010 at the Church of God of Prophecy with Pastor Carl Hutcheson and Rev. Robert Graham officiating.

INTERMENT: Oak Grove Cemetery.
