John J. Matthews was born on April 3, 1926 at Madison County, Missouri the son of John H. and Alice Cumie (Bollinger) Matthews and passed away October 7, 2014 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis at the age of 88 years. He was preceded in death by his parents , one son Randy Matthews, one daughter Carol Ann Matthews, two brothers A.J. Matthews and Harold Matthews, and one sister Wilma Matthews. He is survived by his wife Ruby (Francis) Matthews, whom he was united in marriage to on February 15, 1947 at Fredericktown, two sons Larry Matthews and Ray (Ramona) Matthews both of Fredericktown, four daughters Doris (Jerry) Boatright of Hillsboro, Missouri, Betty (Eric) Corson of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Sandy (Bruce) Bollinger of Barnhart, Missouri, and Brenda (Chad) Robinson of Ashland, Missouri, two brothers Bill Matthews of Pelzer, South Carolina and Clarence Matthews of Farmington, Missouri, three sisters Zelta Rouse, Faye Umfleet of Fredericktown, and Alma Smith of Heber Springs, Arkansas, fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. John worked for the City of Fredericktown for 41 years and retired in 1988 from the City Water Plant.
