John Elmer Whitener was born December 9, 1945 at Fredericktown the son of Elmer and Lena (Wray) Whitener and passed away on August 7, 2025 at Fredericktown at the age of 79 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet Whitener whom he was united in marriage to on January 15, 1966 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, one brother Harold, and sisters Freda, Lois, and Alma Lee.

John is survived by three sons David John (Amy) Whitener of Kansas City, Missouri, Jeffrey Scott Whitener of Fredericktown, and Darren Christopher  (Jessica) Whitener of Fredericktown; seven grandchildren Chelsi, Andrew, Zachary, Caden, Timothy, Kasen, and Kolyer; and six great grandchildren Noah, Laynee, Riley, Will, Dean, and Piper.

He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Batist Church and enjoyed traveling, motorcycles, farming, and watching westerns.
