Kathy Thal was born on July 21, 1949, at Key West, Florida, the daughter of Vernon L. and Dortha (Riegert) Smith, and passed away on August 25, 2023, at the age of 74 years.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents.

Kathy is survived by her husband Jim Thal, who she married on January 4, 1980, one (1) son Matt (Gretchen) Thal, three (3) daughters, Chaucy Schader, Colleen (Steve) Gloe, Crystal (Rich) Bess, one (1) brother, Martin Smith, ten (10) grandchildren, Halee (Ben) Miller, Kenny Schader, Carl Schader, Henry Schader, Madelyn Gloe, Audrey (Dominic) Masgio, Chloe Bess, Maisie Bess, Ava Bess, Amelia Grace Thal, and one (1) great-grandchild, Adi Jane Miller.

Kathy was a member of Eta Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for 43 years, she served on the Fredericktown Park Board, the Azalea Board, Sikeston Regional Board for the disabled, and the Beautification Committee and a lifelong animal lover. She was of the Methodist Faith and enjoyed reading, traveling, needlework and cooking.

Kathy was employed as a case manager with Family Support Division for 34 years. She took pride in serving the citizens of Madison County with empathy, kindness and dignity.

Kathy will be remembered for her outgoing personality, radiant, ever-present smile, fabulous fried chicken, and fearless , funloving spirit of adventure.
