Obituary

Lenora Vaneta (Duncan) Myers Schmidt, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Palm Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Ozark Manor Nursing Home in Fredericktown, Missouri.

Lenora was born on March 29, 1923, the last of nine children and last surviving child of Arthur L. & Martha Ivora (Cook) Duncan, on the Duncan farm near Williamsville, Missouri.

On May 1, 1943, she married Charles O. Myers of Coldwater Missouri.  To this union three children were born; Wayne, Jeanne and Charles (Chuck).  Her husband Charles died suddenly On July 28, 1958.  She then moved her family to Fredericktown and later to the St. Louis area where she taught elementary students for 18 years in the Normandy School District.

On February 4, 1966, Lenora and Edwin Schmidt were married at Mary Ann Baptist Church in St. Ann, Missouri and resided in Maryland Heights until Ed's death on January 22, 1992.  She later moved to a retirement home she and Ed had built at Lake Timberline near Bonne Terre.  In 2005 she moved back to Fredericktown to be closer to family.

Lenora graduated as Valedictorian from Williamsville High School in 1939 and was awarded a scholarship to Southeast Missouri State Teachers College.  After two years there she accepted her first teaching position at Williamsville; the beginning of a career educating young children spanning more than forty years.  While teaching at numerous rural schools in Wayne and Madison County, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree at the University of Missouri in 1959.  In 1970 she received her Master of Education degree.

Lenora seemed to have endless energy.  She put her church-work and worship first among her priorities, but somehow found time to read innumerable books, raise award-winning flowers, travel, cook and spend time with her family.

Preceding her in death were her daughter, Jeanne Farris (September 17, 2016), son, Charles Lee Myers (October 4, 2017) and granddaughter Sara Myers (January 29, 2018).

Survivors include: sons Wayne Myers (Linda) of Lodi and George Schmidt (Debbie) of St. Peters; son-in-law John Farris of Fredericktown; grandchildren Jana, Stephen, Heather, Jeffrey, Joseph, Matt, Katie, Geoffrey and Kim; great-grand-children Jessica, Khersty, Sierra, Taylor, Brooke, Emma, Caroline, Liam, Harper, Austin, Henry, Wyatt (due in May), Sienna, Oliver, McKenna, Gunner, Jakob and Emberly; and great-great granddaughter Cecilia.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20 at Follis and Sons Funeral Home in Fredericktown, Missouri. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Lenora was a lifelong Southern Baptist and member of First Baptist Church in Fredericktown.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to her church.
