Obituary

Glenda Odessa Omanda (Dowd) Call was born February 15, 1929 at Cornwall, Missouri, the daughter of Forrest Dowd and Lola (Shrum) Dowd and passed away on September 7, 2016 at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Facility in Shawnee, Kansas at the age of 87 years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lois Dowd, Hazel Hoffman, Linda Crosby and brothers Lindell Dowd, Dallas Dowd and Lloyd Dowd. She is survived by sisters Laverne Thorsrud and Janet Dowd and brothers Darrel Dowd and Larry Dowd.
Odessa married Harold Norman Call on February 28, 1947. They were married over 36 years until his passing in November 1983.
Harold and Odessa had two children: James (J.D.) Call and wife Cherie of Lenexa, Kansas and Sandra (Call) Griffin of Shawnee, Kansas.
Odessa is survived by four grandchildren: Jamie Reimer of Papillion, Nebraska; Alicia Trullinger and husband Blake of Buffalo, Minnesota; Kristina Call and fiancé C.J. Hare of Shawnee, KS; and Cory Griffin and wife Ashley of Shawnee, Kansas.
Odessa is also survived by three great grandchildren: Evan and Caroline Reimer of Papillion, Nebraska and Bryant Trullinger of Buffalo, Minnesota.
Odessa also leaves behind a very special friend, Fred Rodenbaugh of Oak Grove, Missouri. She also considered Whitney (Matthews) Spain and Linda (Matthews) Long to be just like family. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Odessa worked at the Brown Shoe Company for over 15 years. She started there as a teenager, became an expert Top Stitcher and eventually became the Shop Steward for 150 employees. She was also an officer in the Boots and Shoe Workers Union.
Odessa loved her country and was patriotic. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was especially proud that both of her children served in the US Army.
Odessa enjoyed going camping and traveling. She and Harold made annual trips to Branson, Missouri and she also enjoyed visiting J.D., Sandra and their families when they were stationed at various locations around the United States. Odessa also made the trip of a lifetime when she traveled to the Holy Land in 1972.
Her many hobbies included: garage saling, volunteering, raising poodles, quilting and sewing. She enjoyed gardening and was a founding member of the Fredericktown Garden Club. She always looked forward to the annual Azalea Festival in Fredericktown.
Odessa was a lifelong member of Rhodes Chapel Methodist Church.
