Paul (Buck) Wesley Myers, 94, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at his home in Fredericktown. He was born November 22, 1919, at Gravelton, Mo, the youngest of 7 children. His parents were Thomas Myers and Janie (Holliday) Myers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lloyd, George and Lee, and sisters Nadine Slunaker, Velma Marston, and Alma Manard, in addition to an infant daughter Jayne Elizabeth Myers.
He is survived by his three children, Donald Roy Pogue of Lake Ozark, Sandra Pogue Lane of Fredericktown, and Gary David Pogue ofFt. Walton Beach, FL. Paul has 4 grandchildren, Dr. Mark Pogue of Scottsdale, AZ, his wife Noreen and boys Griffin and Evan; Kelli Pogue Herr of Overland Park, KS, her husband Eric and children Riley and Christian; Steve Lane of Rogers, AR, his wife Kim and children Mason and Sophie, and Becky Lane McCoy of Cave Springs, AR and her boys Drake Anthony and Collier McCoy. He leaves four nieces and a nephew.
He married Gladys Griffin Pogue on May 19, 1948 in Benton, MO. Gladys preceded him in death on April 12, 2012. Buck was a charter member of the United Methodist Church. His pastimes included his vegetable garden, fishing, taking immaculate care of his house and yard, and looking forward to visits from family and friends.
Buck served in the Air Force during WWII for four years and was stationed at Hickam Field, Hawaii, first as an airplane mechanic then 3 Y2 years a photo lab technician. The lab received commendations for the wartime photos they developed. He took photos of celebrities visiting the base, including Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Francis Langford and others. One photo he reproduced was the burning barracks and tattered flag after the Pearl Harbor bombing; the photo hangs in the Pentagon today. Following the war, Buck worked with his brother at Myers 66 Service Station and later for Boring Oil in Arcadia and Wichman's Garage in Farmington. He retired in 1981. He is a life member of the VFW at Farmington, the DA V and Mineral Area Elks.
