Terry Lee Sikes' Obituary
Terry Sikes of Fredericktown, Missouri, passed away on December 19, 2011 at the 62. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband Eddie Sikes, two (2) daughters Megan (Lonnie) Proctor, and Leslie Sikes. Two grandchildren, Cori and Clay Proctor, one sister Ernestine Medley, one brother Billy Thurman, and many nephews and neices.
Terry was born to Ernie and Dorothy (Stucky) Thurman on February 16, 1949 in Ironton, Missouri. She was raised on a farm in the German Community area of Madison County, where she attended the German Community Elementary School. In 1966, she graduated from Fredericktown High School and began working as the Administrative Assistant to the County Collector under William "Butch" Mooney and the Administrative Assistant to the County Treasurer under John Lindell Smallen. In 1968, she married Eddie Dean Sikes. After a few more years, Terry moved on from her courthouse positions to become a full time housewife and mother. In 1979, she and Eddie had the birth of their first child, Megan, and in 1982, their second child, Leslie, was born. In 1998, Terry became the Administrative Assistant for the Fredericktown Chamber of Commerce. She continued to work for the Chamber until 2007 when she retired to become the full time babysitter for her grandchildren, Cori and Clay.
Terry was a strong and joyful soul who enjoyed life to its fullest extent. She enjoyed creating art through embroidery, spending time in the outdoors while camping, cooking delicious food, and attending Bluegrass music festivals. She was an active member of the Knob Lick Church of God for many years. Most importantly, she adored her family, and she devoted the majority of her time to making sure that they were happy and comfortable.
